Thai tennis ace Tamarine Tanasugarn failed to make her mark in winning the first title on home soil after losing in the finals against the No.1 seed Russian Vera Zvonareva. However, she managed to capture the back-to-back doubles title.

In Sunday's finals of Sony Ericsson WTA Tour PTT Pattaya Open, Thailand's World No. 87 Tamarine Tanasugarn only came close to winning a historic title in the hometown event after losing to World No.14 and No.1 seed Russian Vera Zvonareva in two tight sets 4-6, 4-6.

PTT Pattaya Open was held at Dusit Thani Pattaya in the eastern coastal city of Pattaya. Tamarine once reached the singles finals back in 1996.

the 32-year-old Thai tennis ace did not let go her chance in the doubles competition, in which she teamed up with New Zealander Marina Erakovic to overcome Russia's Anna Chakvetadze and Ksenia Pervak in straight sets 7-5, 6-1. It was Tamarine's second double title at the event.

The winning duo picked up 19,000 U.S. dollar or 635,000 baht in prize money.
